Well, I hope he finds it. What a scoop that would be! No one has ever managed to capture it on camera, much less on film.

I wonder which Passepartout gets to carry the metal detector...?

Seriously, tho', it's great to hear that MP is ready to get back On The Road Again!

I think doing a series on the Iron Curtain countries would be "capital". There was always so much mystery connected with them. One of the great questions to ponder is how Moscow was able to keep them altogether for so long.

Eastern Europe would be cool. I enjoyed Eastern Europe. Passepartout would have to put more consonants and accents in his name so it can be in line with Slavic languages written in Roman alphabet.

'Drumroll' - an interesting name for a series. Not sure how it fits into the whole Eastern Europe thing, though. Maybe MP is going to visit former Soviet Bloc countries and in each one meet up and play with a drumming group, much like the Kodo Drummers in Japan (Full Circle).

Each to their own, I suppose.

Malta by icarabott on 11 November 2005 3:53pm

Hi everyone, I'm from Malta, and I'm so surprised that Michael Palin hasn't visited our country in one of his trips, maybe on a private trip but not on one of his adventures.

Michael, if you ever read this, St Paul came here, why not you? :)

Can't wait for the new series and volume 1 of Michael's diaries - excellent! I'm looking forward to watching some Palin stuff with my kids this winter (got the boxed DVD set!) I reckon it'll be way better than any history or geography they'll get in school (which is also important of course - my apologies to any teachers out there!!)

The kids have recently really gotten into the old Monty Python stuff which is great for us to get to watch it all again!! And so another generation gets to enjoy his genius!! Thanks Michael!

Greetings to the person from Malta. George I read a great book that explained the end of the Soviet Union. It is by Washington Post correspondant Michael Dobbs and is called, "The Demise of Big Brother."
I know people in Eastern Europe and would be willing to share them with Mr. Palin as contacts for an Eastern European jaunt.
Shucks, I'd help in some way if asked.

Putting Such a Series Together.Re: And the next series will be...... *drumroll* by tucsonmike on 12 November 2005 1:46am

It would be interesting to see here what people would like to see in an Eastern European series.

I can tell you would I would be curious about.
1. The legacy of industrial pollution in Eastern Europe.
2. How much of Pre-Communist and Pre World War II history survived.
3. Differences between Communism and the present as seen by people who lived through both.
4. Which empires ran some of the areas in the past.

For example, I've been to Poland. Warsaw was under the Russians. Krakow was under the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Why the Czech and Slovak Republics ended up so different and the reason for the "Velvet Divorce." Hungary and it's differences, Romania and how it differs, the former Yugoslavia and the Ottoman Empire.

I majored in Political Science. I WAS going to make my specialty Eastern Europe, but changed to China for all sorts of reasons.

As I said, if asked I will contribute what I can.

Mike
