Frankly, I don't know much about this issue. Why is Bush against it?

This is beginning to sound more and more like the movie Life of Brian. Remember the Pythons commenting on the problems they had from various religious groups saying, the movie was the one thing that brought them all together. Hating Life of Brian LOL!

I grew up with all the Jewish jokes like "With three Jews, you have two congregations and a dissenter."

Pandab, I enjoyed the "Oh you naughty naughty people!" I guess we opened Pandab's Box! This is a great educational thread though.

We keep discussing what we are finding wrong, in the administration etc. I would be willing to set up a blog with this stuff. Anyone want to suggest a name for the blog? Anyone else who is interested can come on. You can set up teams to contribute to blogs.

How about "The Lunatics have taken over the Asylum" or "The Bush F****er Trials" or "The Madness of George Bush II" or "Monty Python's Life of George" or "The Bad, the Bad and the Ugly" or "The Meaning of Death" or "It's my Party and I'll Fight if I want to"

Forgive me for the lack of subtlety, it's 2 in the morning and the thermometer still reads 75F. (It's an old thermometer)

OOOH! I like Linz's suggestions!
how about "Daddy? Can I Play President Too?"

I love Linz's "It's My Party.." and Helen's "Daddy? Can I..."! Good work, ladies.

Maybe the site could feature a "Worst President Ever" competition. (And I'm sure that I can come up with something from The Shrub that would counter each and every instance of the worst coming from Coolidge, et. al.)

I do NOT mean disrespect to anyone's beliefs, but geez, the Bible was written by PEOPLE, a couple of THOUSAND years ago, who were trying to explain how the world works, and the meaning of it all, while knowing about 1 1/2% of what we know now. As it's been translated into different languages, and by different people with vastly differing agendas, the texts they're holding may very well be like the end result of a big game of "telephone line."

Why treat this as the best source of information or a code to live by in 2006? (Or for that matter, for example, 1652?)

After reading all the posts I wonder, is this wave of white knuckled belief in being "saved" due to the harshness of reality, and the complexity of the solutions? Do most people feel that they themselves are not capable of "dealing" with it?

Maybe people need the easy, comforting answer becuase they are having a kind of mass nervous breakdown.

I think the nervous breakdown has been going on for a long, long time Cori. Although I do understand your statement about not wishing to disrespect anyone's beliefs, I wonder why it can be seen as disrespectful to voice an honest opinion from a non-religious point of view. I am mildly affronted by the total disrespect for some of my views (eg evolution) by religious people but what I consider dishonest gobbledegook cannot be expressed without offending people with blind faith. It seems one-way and unbalanced to me.

There's a great satirical group called Billionaires for Bush. They "performed" during the last Republican convention in NYC. Check them out:

Only "mildly affronted", Linz? I always feel I need to make sure my back is covered here. Maybe the "true believers" in the UK aren't as militant and dangerous as they are here in the US. There are many places here that, despite our wonderful First Amendment, you take you life in your hands if you express a view counter to their simplistic "my country, my Bible, right or wrong" view.

P.S. Funny site, Andrea. Thanks.
