A Day @ The Museum by tucsonmike on 4 July 2007 9:02pm

I have not yet seen the Ben Stiller movie A Night at the Museum (will have to rent the DVD).
I have been posting here and working on the museum catalog. We have been open for 25 minutes, not a soul (hardly a surprise). It is already 110 (40 C) and not a creature is stirring not even a mouse.
I am the cataloger here in my "copius" spare time. While I post I am cataloging the transcripts of the Oral Histories with Southern Arizona Railroaders. Some are in their 90's and the stories are wild.

I am not using standard cataloging at this time, because we are not on any library system. Now, I am just doing stuff, so WE can find it. It will probably be all stuff you would have to use here. (If you steal Juliannes transcript and I have to hunt you down...:-)).
So, it is not as though I have NOTHING to do here.

I hope you're air-conditioned, tho' it doesn't sound so.
I will compare notes with you re cataloguing-voluntarily,Mike. Today I offered my services to the Bishopsgate Institute (a kind of radical, genealogical repository in the City of London)to help catalogue their Co-operative archive. I've not done any for about 24 years so wish me luck!
Good on yer for doing this for free. Our local museum relies mostly on voluntary help these days.

Hang on Mike - you're a guy right? And men can only do one thing at a time, right?

So how come you're doing at least two things at once (posting and cataloging)?!!

You must be 'getting in touch with your feminine side' hahahaha!!!

ROFLMAO Anne!!

Linda, the museum is extremely well air conditioned, but you have to walk through the heat to get here, (luckily it is dry).

Same here with volunteers. Only our curator is paid and she makes barely over minimum wage and officially works 29 hours a week (otherwise, we would have to pay her benefits). Luckily, my company is having a fair next month for non profits and will allow the museum to put a table up.
