new europe: london book signing! by andrea_nyc on 25 July 2007 5:11pm

NEW EUROPE by MICHAEL PALIN
Wednesday 19 September 12.30-1.30pm
Hatchards
187 Piccadilly, London, W1J 9LE
http://www.hatchards.co.uk/

Hatchards is pleased to announce that Michael Palin will be signing copies of his new book, 'New Europe' (Weidenfeld & Nicolson). Until the early 1990s, when the Berlin Wall came tumbling down, travelling behind the iron curtain was never easy. In undertaking his new journey through Eastern Europe, breathing in its rich history, filming its exquisite sights and talking to its diverse peoples, Michael Palin fills what has been a void in his own experience and that of very many of his own generation. As in all his series, Palin's 'New Europe' takes the form of a journey through countries which have rich and complex cultures. Few have survived intact, as the ebb and flow of warring armies has continually changed the map of Europe. Starting in the mountains of Slovenia he travels down through Croatia and the former Yugoslavia to Albania before turning northwards to embrace Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, The Ukraine, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, the former East Germany, Poland, the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad (as Konigsberg originally home to the Teutonic Knights), Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, opening up a new and undiscovered world to millions of readers.

Thanks for the info, Andrea!

Anybody heard of any book signings to be held in the Midlands yet - went to Worcester for the last signing and don't really want to go that far again. Stafford would be great!!!

I'm randomly finding things, but I would think his publisher would have the UK signings listed eventually. They did for Diaries last year:

I was at one in Dundee for the Himalaya book. I hope his signing schedule covers a few cities in Scotland.

I managed to make the book signing at Hatchards! This time I didn't get tongue tied and told him I enjoyed the first episode. He said there are even more good things to come or words to that effect.

Linda, did you make it? I didn't know where to look for you and didn't want to lose my place in the queue (I got there about 12.10 - the queue was already snaking up the stairs).

Andrea, did you manage to get there?

Hope you made it too, MR2.
