Need info on Sowood, plz help! by flinda82 on 21 August 2007 4:18pm

Hi,

I'm planning to go to England this autumn as I was luckily offered a bed in a house in a place called Sowood which is somewhere near the Halifax I guess. My problem is I don't really know how to get there I mean I don't think there's a direct airline to the Leeds airport which would probably be the most comfortable.

So I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some ideas about how to get there from Budapest quick and cheap. Is Thanks a lot!

Hey Linda,
Check http://www.oag.org

That is the International Airlines Organization website. You can put in Leeds and see from which cities flights come from.

Flinda: fly Easyjet cheap to London/Stansted or London/Luton. They have connecting trains to London rail stations & then you can get to Leeds, maybe Halifax as well by train.

Mike, thanks for the thought!!

There are lots of flights to Manchester airport if you can't get into Leeds, it's a lot closer than flying into London and you can catch a train into central Manchester and then on to Halifax.

Hope this helps

Yes, Flinda, Little Gumby is right, Manchester is nearer to Leeds/Halifax: check out EASYJET website & you should get flight details from there. Easyjet are very competitive & cheap & quite reliable.

Thanks a lot now I only have to figure out the connections because for some strange reason I guess Easyjet doesn't have a flight from Budapest to Leeds or Manchester but one has to go the lake Balaton Airport and start from there. It's odd I mean instead of starting from a big international airport you have to go to a tiny, simple place. But no problem and thanks again!

I have to write again how thankful I am because it seems that I'll be able to find a flight from Budapest to Manchester in October for less than 100 euros which is great! So all I have to do is gather the money and start clicking on the jet2 site! (And make some preliminary reading on Northern England :) )

Flinda, have a really great trip.If you can, spend time in Manchester & Leeds: they are great cities: very nineteenth-century commercial & civic architecture.
We will hope to be in Budapest next year - if you're around, perhaps we could meet up for a drink or something. I'll email you with specifics next year -
Linda

Mike, since you guys don't understand football ( soccer), there are a few great teams in the world, namely Man Utd, Liverpool and Glasgow Celtic. The latter ( my team ) were the first British club to win the championship of Europe. What can never be replicated, is that the winning team of 1967 were all Scottish and born within 60 miles of Glasgow. It's different nowadays. Our great Glasgow rivals, Rangers, have fielded teams consisting of 11 foreigners.
Teams like Chelsea and Man Utd can spend tens of millions on players. I'll never forget that day in May 1967, when 11 Scotsmen whupped the arse of the supposed cream of European football.
