More Refugee Stuff by tucsonmike on 4 October 2007 7:10am

Now it is getting spooky. A brother and sister are checking out my Toastmaster club to join. They are from a family of Cambodian refugees with a similar story to my friend Anastase.

I just finished reading a book on the History of Communism called Comrades, by British historian Robert Service. He wrote about the reprehensible Khmer Rouge.

I have been put on this path, and I am a little scared, to be truthful.

Remind me what the Toastmaster-quitters are joining Mike?

Robert Service is so right-wing it isn't true - he had some very dodgy friends in the literary world - Communism was nasty all right but I'd believe the details more from someone else, if you see what I mean.

I understand Linda. I read it and know something about Communism because of the folks I know in Poland.
Thank you.

Oh Mike, let me say again, what a good & useful organisation Toastmasters must be. It's too late now, but how I (and lots of other shy introverted library workers)would have benefitted from this kind of training at the beginnings of our careers - 40 years ago now, though!

It's never too late to join and have fun, Linda. I stay for the camaraderie @ this point.

No Mike, I agree generally, Never too late, but too many irons in the fire for me, that's the trouble.
Now it's autumn, and we grow all our own veg, you can imagine the hive ofr industry. My dining-room looks like churches at Harvest Festival (is there a Jewish equivalent to this?)
