Bonzo Dog DooDah Band by Lady April on 19 March 2008 3:54pm

First time I ever remember seeing this group they were doing "Death Cab for Cutie" in Magical Mystery Tour. I was collecting Beatles movies at the time and thought they were just fabulous.

This "Urban Spaceman" version I think is the one I like, those silly Doo Dahs. A little slower than the acoustic version Neil does with Python.

Of course then the famous introductions of Do Not Adjust Your Set by the Doo Dahs. Awesome!

Even with those adorable youngsters, the Pythons, and sweet little Jason, Do Not Adjust would not have been so attractive without The Bonzo Dogs. I admire them in the show. I read in Steven Fry's autobio that he valued them very highly.

UPD - I love Neil Innes! I always wondered why people laughed at "How Sweet To Be An idiot" performance at the Hollywood Bowl. To me, it is an extremely sad song. It calls up Paul's "Fool On The Hill" in my mind (which used to make me cry as a schoolkid)))

I think the reason the audience laughed at "How Sweet to be an Idiot" was because it was such a perfect parody of John Lennon. He did a lot of parodies on Rutland Weekend Television (with Eric Idle), including Bob Dylan and Elton John.

Not Paul then?.. )))
(Do not take me too seriously, I laughed at it too ;-) Just the videoclip of this song looks quite sad and moving in Innes Book of Records)))

This one I think is also on Do Not Adjust "Equestrian Statues" sung by the darling Neil.
Funny though, Elton John must've stole the look a few years later.

Ahhh, I didn't really understand if he was doing a parody with "How Sweet to be an Idiot". Thanks for explaining!

Katia--"How Sweet To Be An Idiot" made me cry, too. I think it's the faces he makes that the audience is laughing at.
