The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Stirring up Trouble by mrsthing on 25 October 2008 3:21pm

There's a sketch from "At Last the 1948 Show" called "Mice Laugh Softly Charlotte". It's a parody of those old "mystery thriller" movies. John Cleese is the villain, and the entire cast has assembled in his living room to try to defeat him. He pulls a gun on them and says, "All right, THIS is a gun!" The cast gasps. "AND it's loaded!" Louder gasp. "AND it's a clear night!" Beginning of a gasp, then Tim Brooke-Taylor says, "What's that got to do with it?"

It's that beginning of a gasp that these last-minute, desperate attempts to scare voters into voting Republican hope to achieve, betting that no one says, "What's that got to do with it?" until after the election.

I'd love to say this is the work of a few fringe lunatics, but they're fringe lunatics with a lot of power to mobilize a lot of stupid, gullible people to work for their cause. People will gasp, "Terrorists will attack FOUR major American cities if Obama is elected?" and rush off to vote for McCain before anyone has the courage to say, "Wait a minute--where are they getting this information?"

Sigh. My gut tells me this stupidity will die a painful death at the polls in 11 days. I hope my gut is right.

Yes, I think this election, more than any other, will give an idea of how much of the country is "forward" thinking, and how much is "backward" thinking...

I can't wait for the election to be over. If I didn't have to go on the cancer walk tomorrow and to work, I would hibernate.

Me too, Mike! I'm tired of trying to be an informed voter. I have all the information I need. I wish I'd avoided the temptation to click on that link. But my MIL is a big fan of James Dobson and FOTF, so at least now I'm prepared if she brings up any of this stupidity.
