More so-called Celeb stories by Spursfan on 11 March 2009 3:28pm

I can't remember which thread it was on, but we were talking about having met 'celebs'.

Years ago when our kids were young we took them to Butlins a few times. The last time was when they were about 13 and 10. Appearing at Butlins that year was Rod Hull (and Emu); at the time he had a very popular kids TV series so our kids were aware who he was. One day they saw him arrive in his car and offered to help him move his stuff out of his car boot. He said that would be great so they did, and he was really sweet and thanked them a lot.

During the same trip we were walking by the beach when Susan Maughn who played Grotbag the witch in Rod Hull's TV series, walked by and stopped and chatted for a long time. Of course our kids were thrilled that they were talking to 'Grotbag', but I was sent spinning back to my childhood and 'Bobby's Girl' [I thought It's my party' was hers too but it wasn't, that was sung by Lesley Gore]. She was really nice, anyway.

My husband once went to a thank-you do by one of the grouops helped by the Festival Committee we all belonged to, which was held at a local pub. The 'star' at this event was going to be spit the dog, who was just beginning to find 'fame' on the Saturday morning kids' show TISWAS, with his 'owner', Bob Carolgees.

Anyway, Zak and Mick got to the pub, and there was a bloke sitting on his own, nobody around him, basically being ignored, so either Mick or Zak asked him if he wanted a drink. He said yes, and the 3 of them chatted away until bloke said he had to go, because he had to do his act! Yes, it was Bob Carolgees!

Apparently after he had performed, and everyone realised who he was, everyone in the pub wanted to talk to him and buy him a drink!! Beforehand, when he was a 'nobody', the only people who had wanted to talk to him were my husband and his friend!!

How sickening is that!!

:(

I've been thinking and I'm now sure Susan Maughan wasn't Grotbags.

Anyone remember what she DID do on the Rod Hull and Emu shows???

:(

Singer Susan Maughan starred in "Emu In Pantoland" in 1977 at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London,in which she got 'kissed' by the emu.

I think the other references are to : "Emu's Pink Windmill Show" (TV series/1984)and "Emu's World".

Yes thanks, b-b but she (SM) was also in the TV shows which is why she was with him at Butlins?

No,Anne, can't do FB on this hand-cranked machine.
One of the political people is trying to get me to do TWITTER, do you do that too?

Should try FB when we get a new computer, perhaps.

Yeah, good, thanks!
