Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords by tucsonmike on 9 January 2011 3:48am
I have posted most of my thoughts on FB. Needless to say I am depressed. She is my Congresswoman.
I know important Mr. P finds human rights. I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come in the USA

I got some of the details of the shootings on our news this morning and was depressed by it too. There are unstable people about with strange ideas and they sometimes use extreme action to vent their frustration/emotions/views. It just isn't right.

I thought of you, tucsonmike,in Tucson when this shocking news came through, last night.
This 22-year-old, from what I can gather, was highly unstable. Alarmingly, he had once visited the Tucson Book Festival.
But he was rejected from joining the US Army, read books on terrorism, admired Adolf Hitler, disrespected US History and had previously made death threats.
The signs were there, but nobody did anything about it.
Now this tragedy has occurred.
I hope Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords recovers, but the odds are not amazing after being shot at point-blank range in the head.

Thank you gentlemen. This is a sad day for Arizona and all of us. I almost went to the event yesterday, a head cold kept me home.

Terrible event.

My friend and former boss asked me to write an essay about it. If published any earnings would go to the Congresswoman's family and staff, the judge's family and staff and the little girls family to deal with as they see fit.

This is what I wrote.

God, there's so much there, Mike!

Amy Goodman, Democracy Now; had a former classmate of the gunman on her show. The gunman attended PIMA Community College, was banned from attending a Poetry writing class because of inappropriate comments and ultimately asked to leave the college to get a psychological evaluation according to this former classmate.

The shooting in Tuscon is going to bring gun control back into the spot light.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik in an interview with Katie Couric said,

"Maybe they could pass a law that would require that every child have an Uzi in their crib," as a response to laws allowing the carrying of weapons.

That's good enough to start a debate right there! The County Sherriff is for gun control.

The whole story and background to it is tragic. Where, where, where were Loughner's parents? If neighbors feared the young man's behavior, enough to make one say she thought he might be a serial killer, why didn't his parents take notice and get him help?

Did PIMA Community College notify the parents of Loughner's unusual and inappropriate behavior and inform the parents of the College's request that he receive psychological evaluation? I know hearing that your child has mental issues must be devastating, but there are professionals who can help.
