I wish the younger celebs of today would learn a thing or two from Michael Palin.
And reality folks do not count as celebrities, just my own viewpoint there. |

Agreed.
Have you seen the King's Speech? A brilliant film. |

Not yet Sue. I hope to this week end. Here's another great article, long but informative;

At the end of the article the journalist calls Palin, "the thinking woman's crumpet," well thanks very much! That's made my day! |

Crumpets aside (although I do totally savor them in all their glory) and to get back to the original topic, I really hope that someone will make the interviews that Dick Cavett did with Jonathan Miller, where Miller talked about his stammer and how he overcame it. On different days, Miller had problems with different consonants so he developed his amazing vocabulary to always have a synonym available to come up with without the day's bad letter. Absolutely fascinating interviews. |

Here's the first of three interviews Geraldine, I wonder if these are the ones? They are from Cavett's show in 1980. I haven't watched them yet, in a rush right now. But I will watch them later.

Thanks, Loretto. Actually, that's the first of five which are frustratingly disconnected; Miller is often cut off in mid-thread. I think those youtube entries are small snippets from a whole week of shows that Cavett devoted to Miller in 1980. I remembered a lot of it. (I'm old, very old....)
It is so amazing that someone so incredibly articulate as Miller could have had a terrible stammer when young! Those youtube clips didn't have the bit where he talked about overcoming his stammer but there are other things from 1981 that I haven't looked at yet that may have that conversation. I'll look further when I have the time to search and will post the link if I find it.
For those of you young'uns who don't know Jonathan Miller, I suggest you look at some of his youtube clips. He is an amazing man. Cavett had him on a lot but, unfortunately, no one else in the U.S. has in the last decade or two. Is he still around on British telly?
Miller and Peter Cook were what made me make my first solo international trip be to England when I was first able to travel on my own. I figured that anyplace that produced two such remarkable men was the first place I should travel to. And I was rewarded when, groggy from jet-lag and walking around the West End in the early morning, I came across two life-size photo cut-outs of Cook and Moore outside of the theatre where they were appearing in "Behind the Fridge". Saw the show that night and totally fell in love with London. |
