R.I.P., Elizabeth Taylor. A great actress.

Liz was 79. Born 27th of February,1932 in Hampstead,London to American parents. Her mother was an actress also under her stage name of Sara Sothern. Liz started her acting career at age 9.

Elizabeth Taylor was one of the surviving greats of the old Hollywood studio system, appearing in epic films such as George Stevens's GIANT (1956) about the integration of Mexican-Americans in Texas; Joseph L. Manciewicz's CLEOPATRA (1963)about the Egyptian Queen; and Tennessee Williams's CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF (1958) with Paul Newman; and STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE (1951) starring Elizabeth alongside Marlon Brando and Vivienne Leigh.
I think it is fascinating that over 40 major (and 1,400 unknown) actresses were screen-tested for the leading female role of Scarlett O'Hara (although Clark Gable was always the preferred choice to play Rhett Butler) in David O'Selznick's masterpiece GONE WITH THE WIND, but the role eventually went to Vivienne Leigh.
I suspect that Elizabeth Taylor would have been perfect in the role, except that the film was made in 1939 when Elizabeth was only 7.

However,I always admired her fortitude in battling valiantly against multiple illnesses during most of her adult life.
She was made a Dame for her successful charity work.

I really admired her for being one of the first actors to talk about AIDS in a humanitarian way. She certainly lived a life that was far from boring, but she also did a lot of work for charity too.

RIP Liz Taylor

Elaine had to explain to our niece who Elizabeth Taylor was. That made us feel old, LOL!
