Olympics 2012 by Loretto on 18 March 2012 3:10pm

I called my friend in London yesterday, the girl I have known since we were in Kindergarten together in Ireland. We talked about the Olympics. She said that her commute is going to be hellish during the round-up to the Olympics and during it. Here's a storify.com piece I wrote. Lot's of controversy about the 2012 Olympics.

And the advertising over here is HUGE.
All over the train stations and inside the trains are posters that say "Great Culture, Great Britain." "Great Histroy, Great Britain."

I'll not be going but hope to watch a lot of it on the telly. Jessica Ennis is my favourite British Olympian, who is yours?

Michael Phelps. Because Sean is a swimmer and is also big into the Water Polo (deadly on the horses, mind you)we would love to get tickets to either a USA swim team event or Water Polo event. They don't go on sale here until April and I guess the water polo isn't that popular so who knows?

"Heritage is Great (Britain)", with a picture of Henry VIII.

What's so great about Henry the 8th, the serial wife killer? Why do the English celebrate characters like that, who pepper GB's history with evil?

Well, you're right ev, he was an evil man but boy oh boy does it make for a good story! And why change history?

We've been to the Tower of London and I don't think the horrible parts of history are celebrated, but I'd pay any money to see the places where prisioners were kept and hear more stories like that of King Henry VIII. It's interesting.
