The Virgin Islands I think

Micewillplay wins! It is the Virgin Islands.

The U.S. Virgin Islands were a Danish colony in the Caribbean. The United States bought them from Denmark in 1917 to prevent German infiltration of the Caribbean. We occupied the Dominican Republic and Haiti and made Puerto Rico a Commonwealth for the same reason.

So Mike, "We occupied the Do...in 1917" You're much older than you admit!

Why are they called the Virgin Islands?

Re: Trivia Question. by Ken Dunn on 28 August 2012 9:17pm

They may have been uninhabited when discovered or named after the Virgin Mary.

Ah, here's the answer:

"Christopher Columbus named the islands after Saint Ursula and the 11,000 Virgins (Spanish: Santa Ursula y las Once Mil Vírgenes), shortened to the Virgins (las Vírgenes)."

Talkin of Trivia... I am full of it, (Trivia JBG) a friend said to me that he had been to a recent quiz and a question was asked and no-one knew the answer, I knew it straight away, read it in a book and it stuck, liklyhood is that I will never be asked it again, So, without the help of the internet, `who was the Hong Kong cha cha champion of 1958?`
