A BIG THANKS TO MICHAEL FROM BUDAPEST, HUNGARY by vb on 17 December 2003 4:30pm

I finally got my signed copy of Sahara yesterday.

No, I wasn’t there at the booksignings myself but fortunately a girlfriend of mine was in London on a business trip on the day Michael signed books at Borders and Waterstones. I did not want to burden her with the task to sign books for me (and another friend) but she volunteered and was insistent. Later I tried to confuse her by telling her Kensington High Street instead of Oxford Street but that one did not work out she already knew the correct address. I hoped she would not because I really felt (and still feel) embarrassed to accept such a favour, as I know she hates standing in queues (as most people) so tried everything to discourage her. I thought I succeeded but as it turned out yesterday I did not.
Fortunately:))))

According to her recital she bought a couple of copies of Sahara, showed up at Borders on time, got in queue and waited for her turn. When approached Michael and started to spell my name he took an interest in where she was from what she was doing etc. So they chatted for a while and she told him about me being the most enthusiastic Hungarian fan of his series and her intention to surprise me with the signed book (and lure me into a trip to Australia next March).
So she surprised me!!! Perfect Christmas present for me and I eased myself that she agreed to accept my unsigned copy in turn for her surprise-book.

All in all: THANK YOU MICHAEL FOR THIS GREAT PRESENT AND FRIENDLY CHIT-CHAT and remember: anytime you are in Hungary you have friends here who are eager to show you around.

Now that is truly a great friend. You must deserve the trouble and time it took her to do such a wonderful thing for you. Thank you for sharing the story , Balint,
