book signing question by mra9a on 8 January 2004 11:55pm

This is sort of a question directed at those of you (lucky) who have been to a MP book signing, and especially one in the United States (though anyone's input is welcome)...

How early did you get to the bookshop? I read in another thread that someone had waited 4 hours (!) and I didn't pay enough attention to know where that was, but is it the same in the states? I live about 2 hours south of Washington, DC and I don't want to have to drive several hours and not be able to get my book signed.

I know he won't be in the USA for book signings until the fall anyway :) but I just thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

mra9a, I live in Maryland. I went to Washington when he lectured there. It was not a bookshop signing at all. Therefore it was a different process, I guess, because the signing was after he finished speaking and showing slides. Sorry I can't help more with your specific question.

That's fine, it's a start :) thanks!

How do the lectures work? (I'm very new to all this)

Hi mra9a if we had an archive section as we have asked our webamster to do for months i could point you straight in the direction of the chicago seven booksigning thread that we had some months ago

if you would like to add to teh archive thread to say yes please then we can find the threads - archive them and tehn new people like you would find their way round the chatterbox easier

there is also another thread like this on previous pages too - that would help you as well

come on webbis do your thing so we cna help others!! thanks

When I saw him in Chicago I showed up about an hour early and there was only about 30 people ahead of me in line. I would suggest getting there an hour or two early just to be sure. I don't think getting your book signed would be a problem unless he's on a really tight schedule. He was very friendly by the way and chatted and posed for pictures, so if you show up late you may be in for quite a wait, since he spends a bit of time with each person.

Thank you pythonmanni! That was very encouraging :) I've never tried to go to a book signing before and that makes me feel a lot better. Now just hope he comes at least *somewhere* on the east coast in the fall...

Thanks everyone else too.

THANK YOU Diamond! Especially for taking the time to go find all those!

Also, one more question: when book signing tours come around, is the schedule posted on the main Palins Travels page or does it get posted somewhere in the chatter box?

Mara

it was posted on the home page last time but it was also posted on the daily llama web site

you would be well advised to do some googling/searching of your own though mara as you get to find out where michael is further in advance that way - there was only a week at a time on the palins home page OK

I expect Lou (Louise) will keep us all informed way ahead of everyone else though!!
