Sponsoring a child? by Louise on 14 February 2004 4:55am

I plan on sponsoring a child in need, Africa/India, but there are so many web sites out there, it`s mind boggling!
Can anyone tell me the best, if you`re already a sponsor?
Thanks

Lou

I used to do it a few years ago. I can't quite remember the name of the agency, but it might have been Plan International.
To be honest I got a bit fed-up with it in the end, because I was paying my 12 quid a month, and you're supposed to hear back from the child's family in return, but I simply wasn't hearing anything at all. In the end I got a letter in Spanish (I think my child was in Ecuador) but by then I had pulled the plug.
These days I prefer supporting Fair Trade (about which I'm passionate) to Aid, which I feel is a mixed bag of helping people and making them more dependant. Up to you though. Best wishes.
