travels?! by verena on 7 July 2004 1:01pm

hello everyone, I was just wondering why everybody is chatting in the blathering on box and not talking about travels... I thought travelling is the main topic of this site not michael palin? (at least that´s what michael says in his video message). by the way, there really should be more people in the chatbox otherwise its quite hard to get to know people!!!!

I'm sure Michael would agree. He's not intending for this to be a "Palin worship" site. But that's natural anyway,as lots of people admire him and look up to him as a source of inspiration. He has inspired many here, and several do travel. The site is primarily a reference site to help inspire people to travel, and to act as a source of information for that. Many of us use it for that. But until we all go on our next trips, there is little we can chat about in regard to travel. I'm still saving money for my next trip in a few months. So in the meantime the "blathering on" page is just a fun place to visit inbetween. "Blathering on" is just a chit chat section. But we do get travel posts on "Series" and "travel" sections of the chatter box too.

As for the Chat Room. I'm not really a chat room person unless there is a topic assigned for a conversation, because chat rooms usually become just general nattering. Actually, that's a suggestion. We could have a "Daily travel topic" assigned to the Chat Room. That way, visitors who enter the room could immediately join in on a common natter. For example "TOPIC - Which part of the world do you like music from, the most?"

Well, one must have some money in order to travel. Since I don't, I don't. Therefore, I'm not over in the Travel side much....

If you don't travel much, fair enough. I try to contribute to the "travel" part as much as I can because that's what the intended thrust of this website is. I'd like to generate some interest over there. I don't do the "Series" page much because- and I shouldn't admit this here- I haven't seen much of Michael Palin's travel stuff. I'm partial to Godfather's (but isn't Brando dead?)suggestion for the Chat room. I just tried it, but it was only me and my echo.

That's what i've found when i've used the chatroom once or twice. In some cases there were 4 other people in the room. But i suspect they were away from the computer at the time, because i just talked to myself, and nobody else was talking to each other. I tried to start a conversation about travel, but nothing. Did have a conversation one day about Africa with one guy. I suspect that the chat room will explode into chat when the Himalaya series is being shown in August. Until then, the site is just ticking over.
