First series by An on 11 October 2004 9:49am

Hi, I am An from Belgium. I have watched almost every episode of the travels of Michael Palin. Our Flemish tv is at themoment also showing 'Himalaya' so I'm watching it on BBC and a week later again on our 'canvas'.
I have always been very interested in trains, that is one of the main reasons for watching the programme.
I have a question though, is 80days really the first travel Palin recorded for tv because I seem to recaal there was a series where he didn't use anything other than trains to travel around? Or was that 80days, it has been a long time since I saw that so it's possible that that was it but I'm not at all sure.
Hope someone knows more about this

Greetz An

Your memory serves your correctly, An. Michael did a train journey through Ireland many years ago and it was really good.

Hi An - Are you thinking of the first "Great Railway Journeys of the World", BBC 1980?

In that, MP did one prog in a series of 7, from Euston to the Kyle of Lochalsh by Flying Scotsman and Inter-City 125.

Patty, I think the Irish one was actually 1994 ...

the irish one was shot in a second lot of great railway jouneys and called from Derry to Kerry . Derry is in northern ireland Kerry is a lovely area in the south west of ireland . part of this was filmed in a town called dun laoghaire a mile form where i live . sadly i did'nt get to hear of it until after the event . did'nt see the programme either .
the scottish one i know nothing about . louise has already given information about that journey . it was part of the first film of various great railway journeys . 1980 was the year it was shown so lousie is right.
