Pete McCarthy by finnguy on 11 October 2004 11:02am

I was saddened to hear of the death of the broadcaster and writer Pete McCarthy. His books 'McCarthy's Bar' and 'The Road to McCarthy' are among two of the finest and funniest travel books I have ever read. Check them out, if you haven't already done so. It's a shame to think of 'what might have been' - he had been planning to pen a third book.

I hadn't heard that he'd died. I thought his books were great as well, and his death is a sad loss, both as a person and author .

Such a shame. I loved his humour and writing.

Yes, he died last week at the age of 51 after a relatively short battle with cancer. The full story from BBC News can be found at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3727184.stm
