Sir Michael Palin by my dear on 14 November 2004 11:51pm

He ought to be knighted.

Or at least given the O.B.E. - which sounds obscene but isn't.

What are the requisites of a knight? Does anybody know? Can somebody provide a link to the Official Knights Of England website so that we can find out if our man is eligible?

I'm sure he's eligible. He must be. Would getting drunk every now and then in front of the camera whilst travelling around the world disqualify him as a candidate?

It seems like everyone is getting Knighted or O.B.E's these days but when someone actually deserves it it dosen't seem to happen! I agree, Sir Michael Palin it should be. We should start a petition or something...

I was half-joking when I posted this thread.

But only half.

Seriously, what other person has exported so much sheer goodwill to the world other than Michael Palin - isn't goodwill one of the things that British people are known for?

Intelligence + goodwill + culture = Michael Palin.

Excuse me, Sir Michael Palin.

You may have been half joking but your totally right! Instead of honoring idiots and footballers and annoying daytime tv presenters they should get back to people who really deserve it!
Come on people, we really should do SOMETHING....

From what I can find out titles such as knighthoods are awarded in recognition of service. *Anyone can nominate a British citizen for knighthood or other royal honors*
Nominations from the public account for about a quarter of all recommendations!!!

I agree!

Get searching people! How do we nominate Mike? Where do we go?? If they get enough people this could really happen!! just look at all the people it the Vital Statistics List!
I found a good site: http://www.queenfans.com/nomrules.shtml It explains all the rules and even has a link...
or try http://www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/ceremonial/nominations/

I'd have thought Michael's experience as a Knight in The Holy Grail was quite enough for one lifetime!
