Spamalot by Ahren on 21 March 2005 9:57pm
Is there anyone in here who lives in America or who is flying over specially to see Spamalot? I really want to go but *sobs* I can't!
If you do or have, please tell me about it!
Do you know if it's going to come to the UK? It's my only consolation at the moment!

..living in California is just as far as flying to New York from London or just about. It had its "official" opening on the 17th. Good review from the NY Times, a so-so one from the Wall Street Journal. Selling tickets like crazy and expects to be running for some months. Looks like a lot of fun but no plans for any expansion as yet as I imagine the producers want to get their investment back before moving on! Check out the neat spamalot website...it is free not like the John Cleese site!!

I heard it is sold out until the fall...at least all of the evening shows...

but there are weekday matinee shows that are not sold out...? This is what I read a while back, so this could have changed.

Is there a link for the spamalot site?

There's a nice picture from the opening at http://www.playbill.com/news/article/91816.html :).

The weblink is http://www.montypythonsspamalot.com/

Very well constructed site, but how come we are not getting Spamalot in the UK? After all MPFC is essentially British humour even if it is being acted by American actors.

Hey for lots more pictures of the guys on opening night, go to www.gettyimages.com

Go to "Editorial", click on "Entertainment" and then type in one of the Python's names in the Search field. And then ENJOY! :)

Copy and paste this link and see if it works.

Thanks for the heads-up, Ahren and pollyanna!

the UK probably can't afford to run it. plus, as far as i can figure out, the majority of british people regard python as "passe" and outdated. (at least, the ones i've talked to do) in the states it seems to be still fresh and fascinating, mainly i would imagine because of the quintessentially "britishness" of the humour. (think how popular the austin powers movies are over here - i really don't think they go over that well in england)

i asked my sister-in-law about it (she lives in england) and her reaction was "monty python? wow, that's so OLD...why are americans still dragging it out?"

so - that may be one reason why it's not being run in the UK - there simply isn't the market for it.
