Liver biopsy by Spursfan on 29 March 2005 9:53pm

Has anyone on this site had a liver biopsy?

Just wondering, as I have to have one on April 28th - because of the medication I'm on, not because of drink!!

I'm not worried but it would be nice to have someone's feedback.

Anne

i haven't.. glad to hear its not the drink!...but are you having it done just to see how healthy it is because of all the medication which could be damaging your liver?..are you getting a bit twitchy with the nerves now is that partly why you posted this? :-)

No - I've had special bloodtests which show that certain enzymes are high. This could lead to probs.

You should have tests when a cumulative dose of 1g is reached - I'd had 2.5g!! My consultant had 3 of these special (expensive) bloodtests done to be sure - all were high.

I'm not worried (honest) just wondered if anyone else had had it done.

You have to stay in hospital for a few hours afterwards so I'm taking a paperback (I think a hardback would be too heavy!!) of Michael's Hemingway which I aint read yet!!

i know how you feel spurs fan i have blood tests twice a year to test my anti seizure medication level . i am epileptic . my arms are so well padded i am a phlebotomists night mare no one can find a suitable vein without doing thre hokey cokey with the needle ( in out in out shake it all about ) :0) i hope everything works out fine for you .
this might make you laugh . when i had my first seizure i had to have a test done to measure the electrical impulses of my brain ( they put as hairnet on with theese kid of little round disks ) i was so worried the night before the test i could hardly sleep . during the test they told me to close my eyes . well that was it as soon as i did my head would droop and i would go asleep . eventually they brought me an expresso coffee and boy did that wake me up and i was able to get the test done . to this day on my medical records is the comment falls asleep very easliy as they noted it in the results !

Ah bless!

Yes I have to have regular bloodtests too - but have to have the blood taken from right arm instead of the left! I think my mum was the same.

Even before I was ill, when I used to give blood I had to be opposite to everyone else - obviously I just like to stand out in a crowd, lol!

Have they tried your other arm? You might find it easier, like me.

Have never had to have a biopsy for anything. My heart goes out to the poor souls who have to.
