Hi there iveso_g, I travel on my own too, but tend to enjoy a lot of walking along with travel - if you are interested in walking and want to leave the co- ordinates and bag handling to somebody else - I thoroughly recommend Sherpa Expeditions based in Hounslow, there never is anything thats too much trouble

hey im planning to go travelling during my uni hols etc and i was wondering if this sherpa expeditions company arranges group expeditions, as in gets a bunch of single travelers like me together to go places coz as a 19yr old girl its a very daunting experiance going in your own. thanks

I there odd-un, yes they do! On your search engine put in Sherpa Expeditions or www.sherpa-walking-holidays.co.uk - I'm a 35 year old lone female traveller, and with my trips with Sherpa I feel very "safe", not only do they do Europe and UK and Ireland, they have escorted trips to the Himalaya, South America, Turkey North Africa, Tanzania, there is a single supplement but, if you are willing to share with another female, that is waivered. On the trips I've done, Europe based, I've met really nice fellow walkers, and the team in the Sherpa offices are so efficient, and pleasant it makes it an added bonus. If you are thinking of doing a trek, the Sherpa team give excellent advice as to what would suit you personally, and on the self guided tours, they can add an extra night here and there whenever they can, to facilitate you if you want to explore a town or region further!! There are other companies with similar holidays, but after my experience with Sherpa I'm not changing!!! Hope that helps!!

Wow, sounds like a great trip. Please report back and let us know how it went.

I have a friend who went to Morocco with a Spanish tour group because she felt unsure about traveling through Morocco as a single female. She said, however, that if she returns, she'll just rent a car and go on her own.

Sorry, I don't remember the name of the tour company.

Depending on how young you have to be to be young, there are many companies out there with varying levels of travellers from the purely alcoholic to the total opposite.

I've done trips with Kumuka (which I would unhesitatingly recommend to anyone) and Exodus (also good although a little less polished) and Kuoni (luxury - at a price).

My advice would be to have a look at their websites, have a trawl through the newsgroups on the internet and, if you can, go to one of the adventure travel shows and have a wander round, you can get a pretty good impression by talking to some of the people on the various companyies' stands.

When all's said and done, however, I think this website should be a place of reference - maybe the webbies could set a small part aside for this sort of thing?
