Travelling the world without using a plane ( the big steel bird is dead) by z&p on 10 June 2005 12:24pm

Hi all, My wife & I are planning on travelling around the world without using any planes and just with public transport. We have allready travelled the world once, but found flying intoand out of a destanation to easy and to sureal at times.
We are planning are trip for next year 2006/7 if anyone as any advice let me know please. One of the main problems is finding a cheap tranatlantic ship crossing to anywhere in North america. Or from Australia to North america if we go in the other diresction. So if anyone as any advice, that would be great

There are a number of websites for freighter cruises who take a small number of passengers where ever they go and they go almost everywhere. The accomodations are simple and the schedules are not set in stone. No casinos or bands, but quite friendly nonetheless. They take passengers for the sake of good public relations. The largest containership line is Maersk, which is worldwide. Take a look.
