Live8 Eden Project. by perfectbitch on 16 June 2005 3:14pm
Is anyone going to the event at the Eden project in Cornwall? Indeed, have any of you been lucky enough to get tickets for any of the events? If you have been a fortunate palinite, perhaps you could post your experiance of the event(s). Did any of you use eBay?
I have had a notice of suspension of my eBay account but I have never used the site!!!

Well, on Friday night[late] I had a call to say someone had managed to obtain a ticket for Africa Calling..the Live8 gig at the Eden project. I had tried to get a ticket for 10 days and had all but given up hope, but the Cornish inventiveness and dogged determination paid off!
I can tell you all Africa ROCKS!!
The artists, the Womad crew, the Eden staff all pulled off an amazing event. They planned and prepared it in less than 2 weeks and it was awesome!
The public in Hyde Park truly dipped out on a really vibrant, energetic and connective experience.
At Eden, we danced, we sang, we shook our booties, we howled like lions and hopped and boogied the day and night away-as the Cornish love to do.
I have to say I think Geldoff was wrong not to include more African performers in the London gig, to say that people would not show up is ironic given the multi-cultural make-up of London!
In addition, for me, "if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem" rings true in this instance. The best way to improve the poverty in the third world is for the wealthy nations to support what these poorer nations are doing, and to promote and provide economic markets that allow them to compete on an even playing field...that includes the musicians, artists and performers from countries in Africa.
Live8 Hyde Park could have used this an an opportunity to widen public interest in African music-in all it's many forms.
Eden's Africa Calling covered ground-breaking music and performances, it was up-beat, energetic and fun. It was an historical event, that people will be talking about for a long time.
If you get the chance to see any tv coverage-enjoy.
If you want a taste of Africa Calling-check out the Womad organisation and go to one of their festivals.
If you are in Cornwall this summer, check out what's going on at Eden-they have more nights of world music, and boy-do they know how to put on event!
Oh, and Angelina Jolie and Dido turned up-which was ok but sorta momentarily killed the ass-kicking rhythmns and bootie shaking. We didn't need any white people to fly down to "pep it up", we were well happy with the wonderful, talented, unpretencious, entertaining, warm and friendly Africans!
I think the performers loved it too!

I went to Live9 Africa Calling too. Jenni sum up it realy well. It was absolutely awesome event i had so much fun.

I must say Dido and Angelina were completely out of place! African artists ruled the roost.
