The Chatter Box : Blathering On
I'm back! by KateC on 16 July 2005 6:08pm
I have come back from travelling to Denmark, Germany, Holland and Belgium, and am now nursing my sore shoulders and feet!

Denmark was actually cheaper than I had expected, although Copenhagen was, obviously, more expensive than the 'smaller' cities like Odense. I had a fantastic time, made more wonderful by the friendly people I saw along the way. On the train from Denmark to Germany, I met a guy who works for German radio who was doing a report on the new Copenhagen youth hostel in the centre of the city. Unfortunately I stayed at the out-of-town one (Which, incidently, is brilliant, clean, quiet and highly recommended) and so I was only able to give him reasons why I didn't go to the new one. In return, he told me a few good places to visit during my stay in Hamburg.

The only dark side to my trip was hearing about London. My heart goes out to anyone affected and I hope whoever is behind the bombings is caught.

I had an interrail pass which allowed me to travel freely on the trains in all the countries the pass covered. If you are travelling in many European countries, for a long period of time, it is worth looking at buying one of these, although it doesn't work in your country of residence. See http://www.raileurope.co.uk for more details.

I also bought the 'city-pass' cards for both Copenhagen and Odense. These allow free access to all public transport, including the brilliantly modern Copenhagen metro system and also free or reduced entry to some attractions. They can be bought from Tourist Information centres. The Odense pass is a lot cheaper if you're on a tight budget. I especially liked the recycling system Denmark and Germany have for plastic and glass bottles, and believe that the UK should introduce a similar system!

I can't think of anything else to say, but if you have any questions about anything I did/bought or any of the places I stayed, I will be happy to tell you :)

Ooh, and I would love to hear any other Palinites travels they've done recently :)

I'm now going to run off, wade my way through all the threads and eat all my Belgian chocolate. Mmm!
