Scotland Hiking, by Zorba on 2 August 2005 11:29am
Hello travelmaniacs. I'm planning a little cycle joint round scotland. The first thing I'd like to know is what the regulations are about camping? I suppose you can't put up your tent anywhere... or can you?

And further any suggestions? LIke don't forget you mosquito net and stuff.. ?

Thanks a bunch,

If you pitch your tent considerately and take your rubbish away with you there should be no problem with your camp site. There are some official sites around the country for which you pay according to the facilities which you can have access to. It wouldn't be wise to pitch too near a thououghfare as you may be disturbed at odd times.
Midges can be a problem in some areas at times but you may not be affected and there are various lotions with insect repellant qualities.
Finally, follow the Country Code for general rules on living in the countryside.
