The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Country Music in Tucson. by tucsonmike on 26 September 2005 12:00am
Our Country Radio station KIIM-FM does this the end of September every year. This year, we got seats up front for free.
There were 8,000 people at the Pima County Fairgrounds off Houghton Road. It was a beautiful evening with a typical gorgeous Tucson sunset.

Five young people won a contest, to perform songs. One sang the National Anthem. There were booths for food and all sorts of businesses as well as an Apache Helicopter, courtesy of the Arizona National Guard. They were there in force and the the last performer, Darrel Worley signed the chopper.
The performers were
Ray Scott (Most popular song, "She don't like my kind of music). Then Aussie Catherine Britt, who now sings a duet with Sir Elton John. Then Jessica Andrews, Aaron Tippin, who is manaical and puts together bicycles on stage for Toys for Tots. As he told us, every child should have a toy. Then Darrel Worley capped it off.
What a wonderful, well behaved crowd. No pot smoke in the air. People off all ages just having fun.
You wouldn't know there was a war with growing opposition going on. People at the front held out a huge American flag. National Guardsmen got onstage with Darrel Worley. A tear filled my eye.
Many of the people like me hdad cowboy hats on. Many of those with the hats were the real thing though. Boots, chaps, etc.
What a night. A beautiful night in the Old Pueblo.

Sounds like it was fun. I would like to have seen the real live cowboys!
