I've cleaned out my local library... by bandgeek512 on 24 November 2005 3:37am

Just a short message explaining further that I am a truly obsessive and odd person...Though, most of you can point that out anyway without my saying it.

I have checked out every book written by Mr. Palin that my library has--I even had the ones that my library didn't have sent to the one near my house! I wanted to pick them up all at the same time, so I had them all held. I strolled in today and inquired where I should go to retrieve my books. The librarian asked me for my name, and when I told her, she was like, “Oh, yes, *you’re* the one with all the books…”. She proceeded to lead me to a shelf that was half full with books for me.

I requested every book that the library had that was written by Michael Palin. I got some downright strange looks from people as I walked out with five or six hard-cover books. My brother claimed not to know me as I started going on and on to the librarian about how interesting Mr. Palin is. The poor woman just stood there, nodding, without ever saying a word. I don’t even think she was listening to me,

“Do you know who Michael Palin is? He used to be on a comedy show…You know, he got several books about his amazing travels. I am so excited to read them. He’s gone all around the world, you know! I think he’s so great. Do you like him? I do…”

Anyway, I just had to share that. Since I haven’t got money to spend on his books, I decided that I’d do the next best thing: check them out from the library. I was going to do read them one at a time, only checking out the one I was going to read. But, that plan failed when I saw that the library could get most of his books and send them to the library down the road from me.

So, here I am with five books by Mr. Palin, and only about a month to read them all. I might have to recheck them out!

You'll be burning the midnight oil, trying to get them all read in time and just so we know you have read them all, we are going to test you! lol

lol uh-oh! I'd better take notes!

I *was* inconspicuous...

The checkout for library books at my library is done by the customer, but the librarian did it for me...I think to shut me up about Michael Palin. lol, deep down, I know she liked learning about him.

I spent seventeen years as a librarian. I know that "professional librarian" look which I didn't have. I was considered too outgoing and nice to the customers and would have spent too much time chatting with you about Mr. P. She was listening to you, Layne, but she was your stereotyped American librarian. In her mind, her job was to "serve" you and get you on your way.
Well if they didn't know you in your local, they do now! LOL!
Yes, darlin' there is gonna be a quiz.
Who you, obssesive and odd? That what the shrink says, your Mom or you? LOL!
Take Care.

Hehe, I'm known at the library...I ran into a bookcart--twice. That was before I came in to get my many books. They keep most things that can be a trip hazard well away from me. ;-)

I'm not sure, I think I bored the poor librarian to death. My parents get the same sort of expression when I start reading them passages from Mr. Palin's books. It's not that the material isn't exciting; it's just that I'll go on and on until somebody stops me.

I'm obsessive and odd because it's true. lol, I don't think anybody really needs to say it. It's implied.
