New Europe by Godfather on 9 May 2006 2:27pm

Just received the note in my inbox today. Funnily enough, I'm posibly going to some of those regions too in a week or so. Possibly ending up in places like Macedonia, Bosnia, Serbia, etc. No guarantees, because I'm starting in South Western europe and my money may run out well before then. But I might meet the "Palin" on the way. That would be good. I missed him by a ocelot's spleen while in Pakistan in 2003 (he was a valley away). To be truthfull,I'm stalking him and he just keeps escaping. "There's always one, isn't there".

Well, good luck, Godfather - I hope you run into him this time!

You mean, I'm not the only one who got a letter from MP yesterday!! I'm crushed. Actually, I'm thrilled to read that he's "back in action".

ohhhhh... I'm disappointed... When will he come to Brasil to meet me??? (just joking!!!)
I just hope this time the BBC won't forget the other continents while divulging the material (books, DVD's, etc). It's gonna be a good source of information about the socio-politic-economics transfomations the world (Eurasia in particular, but with effects in the whole world)has been through.

I enjoyed reading the letter. People here could put in who can act as his guide. Branka could help in Croatia, (he could also get journalist Slavenka Drakulic)

Maria can take him through Slovakia. I know someone in Krakow etc.

Yes Eastern Europe is a hiden gem. I think this series will be the last on Michael does, but I know he has been itching do a series on Europe, and it will be great. There are so many great and interesting people and places on the door step, and most of us have not bothered to explore them (yes, I am guilty as charged!). Despite wanting to know were Michael is off next, it is great that we wont know every thing, as it makes a nice surprise. I know when I re watch Himalaya, I can now appreciate just how challenging it was to make. Looking forward to reading the book and watching New Europe!

Mike: I sent him a letter last week, together with a book about Prague with many photographs as a birthday present. I told him that I'd love to meet him and be his guide around Eastern Slovakia. So it depends on whether he'd be interested. Anyway, I hope that he'll at least read the letter; I suppose he must be extremely busy these days, making the final preparations for the journey...

Nevertheless, if I'm lucky enough to meet him, it would be awesome! :-D

Dominic: I agree completely! :-)

Re: New Europe by Ecuador on 10 May 2006 10:12pm

I'm glad to here the MP hasn't put up his boots just yet. I've travelled around Eastern Europe a bit myself and there are so many hidden gems. The only thing I worry about is that MP mentiones Eastern Europe and the former soviet Union countries. That is an awful lot of countries to fit into 6 1hour slots. Yes I would love him to do them all but I would rather him to focus in on a few than to just skim across them all. But what ever MP does during this trip I am sure that it will be great viewing as always. By the way I hope that this is not MP's last journey, what else am I going to fill up my DVD collection with???

Ecuador: Yes, I'm worried about that, too. Perhaps he'll divide them into groups (like, for example, the Visegrad Four, the Baltic countries, former Yugoslavia, etc.) and each group will have its own episode. Or maybe they'll realise they need more episodes and they'll do something similar to what they did with Around the World in 80 Days, when they added one extra episode... :-)
