Any Doctor Who fans out there? by Ellerd on 30 June 2006 3:04pm

The new series of Doctor Who begins in Australia next Saturday. I understand Britain is halfway through the second series already. Just wondering, how is new Doctor David Tennant compared to 1st series doc Christopher Eccleston? Thoughts?

I didn't see any of the series with Christopher Eccleston and have seen a few episodes with David Tennant. He seems good to me but don't know how he compares with Christopher Eccleston - sorry not much help.

I find the episodes quite frightening though - being the scaredy cat that I am.

I actually prefer David Tenant to Ecclestone. Linz

I used to hate it but i'm actually getting into it! I dont know who's the better Doctor, but Tennant is certainly very good! Quite cute as well....

I found the first couple of episodes of the first series a bit lame, however once the series picks up from about episode 3 onwards, it gets very good. The producers have worked in new approaches to the material and it works extremely well. I was sorry to see Chris Ecclestone depart so soon, and it was hard to imagine Tennant being as good, but having seen about half of the second series so far the transition has been made extremely well. The second series builds on not only the first series but also the original in very unusual and interesting ways. This is definitely a vast improvement on anything the show had churned out since the days of say Jon Pertwee. I certainly like it.

I liked the guy with the long scarf. He was and still is a very good actor as he has appeared in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen in the past few years.
Tom Baker.
I've seen a few bits of the two current series and as sci-fi goes there is a very good mix of stories.
I think Dr Who could be compared with 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' .

Tom Baker was my favorite too. I once knitted a replica of that scarf for an old boyfriend, a physicist who turned me on to Dr. Who.

I really like them both, but because it follows the Dr Who tradition of picking very eccentric characters to be the Doctor. Great story lines and a good plot throughout. Definately worth watching both series.
