We won our independce on this day in 1776! That's what it's all about, Cecile, a new country was born!

Happy 230th Birthday to US(A)!

What about Lafayette?
I live 10 km of the village where he was born, so, here, he seems to be a hero (tourism...), what is reality?

Happy 230th, USA! I'm trying to think of something to do today of a patriotic nature. So far I've watched the original "Star Wars", in many ways a uniquely American product, but I think I can do better than that. I'm going to spend some time in contemplation and list at least 20 things about my country that I'm particularly proud of.
By the way, it's been 30 years since the bicentennial. What do people remember about the celebrations in 1976? I remember the Revolutionary War being made a big deal of at the time. And it worked- I'd just turned 4 and I remember it. (I particularly remember our "scenes of 1776" viewmaster card)
