The Chatter Box : Blathering On
An Interesting Day at the Museum. by tucsonmike on 8 September 2006 6:35am
Today was interesting for two reasons.

I had these two older amusing gentlemen come in. They are from Bristol, England. For those of you who remember the BBC series To the Manor Born, they sounded like Ned, Penelope Keith's property assistant. I told them that and they laughed. I had no excuse telling anyone anything today. I had on my shirt with the smiley face that says "I am no longer a danger to society." The shirt, a cowboy hat and boots. Heck of a combination.

Then the phone rang. "Southern Arizona Transportation Museum, Mike speaking," I said, trying to sound SOMEWHAT professional.
"Is this Michael Charton?," the voice on the other end asked. I restrained myself from asking "who wants to know?"
Turns out she was asking me to speak to a Rotary group. Someone gave them my name. They must have heard my March 14th talk about the Chinese building the railroad in Tucson. There is karma for you. Six months later. Also, I am not there every Thursday, so for her to call then.

Then I went to TV Toastmasters, so I had the silly shirt on on television. Not sure how many watch Access Tucson. I was General Evaluator. That person's job is to evaluate the meeting (in my case a little like the fox being allowed in the chicken coop). I told the TV audience to email the show telling us
A. How we are doing and if they want to be in the audience. (That we always do).
B. To wake them up and tell them to vote on whether what the shirt says is true.

As Graham Chapman would have said. Just silly!!

Hahaha, I've got a bag that says "School prepares you for the real world which also sucks" and a shirt that says "I think therefore I'm single". There was a boy in my public speaking class this morning with a "This is my good shirt" shirt.

The college I attend, where I'm working on a two-year degree that will transfer to another school for my four-year degree, requires anyone getting an associate in arts, fine arts, or a few other programs to take a semester-long public speaking course. It takes care of the communications requirement that we have to fulfill in order to graduate. The powers that be seem to think that it's useful. I'm having fun thus far, we have the first of three speeches due next month.
