Suggestions for Mr. Palin's next journey.. by ev on 12 October 2006 1:42pm

I started another thread on this topic, but it tended to be overrun by kitchen table-talk. Nothing wrong with chatter necessarily, after all this is the 'chatter box', but may I politely request that we keep this thread only for suggestions for possible future journeys by Mr. Palin?

I'm interested to hear everyone's suggestions, and I think many people like to dream a bit about hypothetical itineries :)

To sum up the relevant posts from the old thread:

Ginnypg suggested:
"How about a tour through the time-lines of slavery, with Terry Jones. I'm not being superficial. Slaves were mentioned in the Bible, regarding Egypt. The Romans had a huge Empire to cater for with the help of cheap labour. Africans would use people from defeated tribes for the same purpose. Slavery continues today.
To make money, people take advantage."

Spursfan suggested:
"I think the best series have been those in which it is basically country to country to country etc. Add to that a time limit as in the first series and you have a perfect mix.

However, I still stand (ok I'm sitting, but you know what I mean) by Turkey!!

Each region has a food speciality too; honey, bananas, whatever, so that could add 'spice' to the programme too (did you know that there are three main cuisines in the world - Chinese, French and Turkish?)."

I suggested a series/journey about islands around the world:
"How about this list of island places, none of which have been visited on his past trips: Ireland, Iceland, Sicily, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Bali, Taiwan, Hawaii, Irian Jaya/PNG, Great Barrier Reef, Tasmania, New Caledonia, Fiji, Solomons, Tonga, Tahiti, Easter Islands, Galapagos, Jamaica, Newfoundland, Cape Verde, Canary Islands, just to name a few.. that would make a great trip!"

I would add to that other small islands like Elba, for example, where Napoleon was exiled to.

Sophie-Louise suggested:
"he should do something on how awful britain is!"

Are you trying to say 'Coff's Harbour', kazzzz? You think he should go to Coff's Harbour, New South Wales, to visit the Big Banana?

Sophie thinks Britain is so awful. I am an Anglophile, so I can't wait to go. Then again, the winters would be rough. It is beautiful outside today (notice I am inside though).
