I'm Tired of Speaking about This. by tucsonmike on 19 October 2006 10:58pm

We need to be civil to each other again and for good. I know I come here to chat with my good friends here (one I am meeting for the first time on Saturday).

I've said before, in Blathering On, we can blather for that is what the word means. Being civil to one another would be nice.

Mr. Palin is kind enough to provide this site FOR FREE. To be on John Cleese's site, for example, you have to pay $50 US/year. So, let's not abuse it, shall we? What will we say if the webmaster on Mr. P's instructions decides to lift the site? If we lose it because of pettiness, whose fault is that? Are we going to then whine about it? Look at what is listed before the chat room. The goal is to get to know each other across borders and speak with one another civily.

You are going to have disagreements in a community. This is a community and we need to have some decorum. Nothing wrong with having fun. If the fun goes away, so does the site. Also, to use something we discuss in Toastmasters. Criticize what is said, or the content, not the person.

There are a lot of kids here. (Probably more than who contribute regularly and they just lurk). We adults should be setting a responsible example. We can have fun without being crass and cruel.
People have told me about the kids being attacked in the chat room. Such loutish behavior toward our young people should not and cannot go unchallenged. We older adults who have been around the block and knocked around have to guide the kids.

We have to trust each other somehow. After all, this is the Internet and remember that old cartoon. "On the Internet, no one knows you're a dog."

Trolls are an unavoidable fact of Internet life. I have left worse sites.
Let's get back to having a blast.

Enough of being glum. Wheres' the party at, y'all?!

It is also a good idea to name and shame the trolls. Remember, in doing so, not to be offensive as you may be acting trollish yourself.

Thanks, Mike. I knew I could count on you to bring some common sense back. ;) I'm so helpless...my abilities of sarcasm have gotten the better of me when trolls would post.

I agree completely with Mike. Backing him up 100%.

totally agree mike. they should just be ignored. its silly to even start threads about telling on them and rubbish like that. if you don't like something then ignore it. simple. it just gets everyone worked up. lets all forget it.

$50?? Thats unbelievable!!!I would have paid at least $100 to join! Shan't bother though, that John Cleese always was a cheapskate...speaking of being civil ...I was civil to my bank manager this afternoon..do i get a gold star???

Ruthy

Heres a short poem I wrote on the back of my hand earlier...

Mr Palins web page is free,
So don't be logging on to disagree,
Lets make merry, laugh and chat,
For tis India, Russia and Kat...(mandu)
Wild travellers tales of near and far,
Recalling adventures by sea, air or car,
The reason is plain to see,
I've had too much tea
and thats why this poem is rubbish.

s-l I strongly object to your inference that I was silly to start a thread to ask for help removing an objectionable troll.

What's up?

Troll lover are we??

Sorry Mike, but I'm tired of saying this:

Most of us here *are* civil towards one another. Don't let the one bad egg upset you. Don't condemn us all for the behaviour of one troll.
