Once Upon A Time ... by Louise on 26 October 2006 2:41am

... this board was useful, friendly and fun to talk about MP`s work. To swap information about telly programmes, book signings and the like. That was great!

Now it`s just plonkers having an internet squabble.

I`ve been reading the Palin Diaries - I doubt anyone is interested in discussing this?

Louise, some of us see it as it is still like that.

My copy arrived yesterday. Wow! That's a big book.... Will be happy to discuss it with you, Louise, when I've gotten a little further into it.

This is the only reader review posted so far on amazon.com (U.S.):

"Being a python fan, I was looking for more nuggets about the group and the writing process, but this book revealed little of interest. Poorly edited ramblings about dinners and meetings with BBC nonentities, plus Michael's love of British socialism make it a really tough read. The phrase champagne socialist comes to mind. Not recommended unless you are a huge python fan. Michael should stick to his day job - brilliant script writing."

There's something to discuss!

Good grief! That's harsh! I rather liked the entries of his that were included in the Python autobiography and caught two of the excerpts read by him for Radio 4's book of the week. Surely it can't be that bad. Let us know how it is, Geraldine.

wow, i can't believe someone actually said that! the book is about his life at that time, not just about his python experiences.

Maybe you`re right, Tucsonmike :) It just seemed as though in the early days there wasn`t quite so much bitching going on.

Well, having bought The Diaries two weeks ago, I`m still only on page 534. It`s very heavy to read in bed, y`see!

There was a review in the Sunday Times Culture section - the journalist appeared disappointed that MP hadn`t written lots of juicy gossipy snippets and dished the dirt on famous people.

I think it`s a rather sweet memoir. It`s doing quite well in the book charts but I do wonder if the next two promised volumes will fare as well without the magic word "Python" on the cover ...
