A Holiday Party with Kazakhs. by tucsonmike on 16 December 2006 5:47am

Today was our open house. It was fun, except when I got smacked for ogling the girls.:-) They are pretty and very stylish.

I may be shipped there eventually to start Toastmasters clubs. Also to help set up a Chemists meeting. Don't know when.
(As if I don't have enough to do. I am behind in my edits). Mumble mumble. (Now I sound like Matron, Mother of God). LOL!

Anne I figured you would be interested LOL since it is a Turkic culture.

I just hope they don't ship me there in the winter! The kids were asked what they liked about being in Tucson. They all chimed in with the weather!

Did I remember to mention the girls are gorgeous?;-) (Someone smack that brat, PLEEEAAAASE)!

You are so NAUGHTY Mike!!

I should imagine that it would be tough in their winter for you (and them of course!). It's such an opportunity - you're so lucky. How long do you think you would be staying there? Reading your post, when you say 'to start up toastmaster clubs' this sounds a long-term thing, so is Elaine going with you?

Keep me posted!

(Sorry - should've said 'please'!!)

A.

John, allow me to explain. Tucson is a sister city of Almaty, Kazakhstan. I am a member of the group. Most of the Kazakhs who come here are kids on either high school exchanges or they are students at the U of A (University of Arizona). I have been voted $200 to purchase the basic materials to start Toastmasters clubs there. I might be able to one up it.

Anne. Elaine would probably have to go with me. I don't know what this is going to turn into. There might be other stuff for other Palinites. Earlier when we spoke about a get together. This is where I am going with this.
We have a major automotive dealer in town named Jim Click who is on all sorts of boards and will do things if you have a plan. I met him by accident when we first moved here, (a funny story). The Chairman Emeritus of our group has befriended me and told me Jim Click has already done two things for Kazakhstan.
1. One year as a goodwill gesture, he paid to send a Mariachi Band over there.
2. He sent 250 wheelchairs over there.

So to get funding I am trying to draw this up to have more people, especially in Tucson benefit. Jim Click is powerful enough in this town, so he can just pick up the phone etc. I might write this up as a Tucson wide Toastmasters Youth Leadership thing and then the kids would go over there.

I am writing it up now, and the committee will discuss it after the first of the year.

Mike,
Thanks for explaining that,it seems an interesting and worthwhile cause.Khazakstan recently opened a Consular Office here in Scotland (Aberdeen),which is it's first in Western Europe. They have a huge oil and gas industry and as Aberdeen is the 'Oil Capital' of Scotland they hope to forge strong business links with Khazakstan.
