i have to post a wand to a mate to his uni, this thing is about 39.5 cms long. any advice?

Yes. break it into several pieces so it will fit into an envelope :)

Is it a gift? You could insert it into a paper towel roll and post the entire thing to him! It would be protected from concussive damage and be impossible for him to guess it's contents.

i made the wand for the heck of it then thought i should give it to him. i've already got one you see?
