Lunar eclipse by Lounge Trekker on 12 January 2007 7:56pm
See Ken's mesage below:

Apparently this could be the brightest comet for decades. Visible with the naked eye in the northern hemisphere close to the sun in the morning and evening, it will make it's closest pass to the sun January 14.

Here's a picture:

Here's a good simulation of it made from satellite photgraphs:

Thank-you for that. I shall go up on the roof to see if it's visible in all this light pollution.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Another Scottish discovery!!
Re: Comet McNaught by Lounge Trekker on 12 January 2007 11:52pm
Maybe. The discoverer R.H. McNaught gives his location at the time of discovery as Siding Spring Observatory, Australia.

Here's a group of photos credited to a man with a Japanese name, several Americans, an Austrian, and a satellite that isn't even on the planet...SOHO

Here on the east coast of the USA they say it should have a copper color! That sounds beautiful.

Re: Lunar eclipse by Ken Dunn on 3 March 2007 9:27am
The weather in the UK is poor tonight so don't waste too much time trying to view the eclipse as it will probably be blocked by cloud.

That's quite ingenious, Lounge Trekker, how you changed the thread title to accommodate the eclipse as well on the astronomy theme.
Do you fancy a job as site editor!?
