All of you who have met him, you are so lucky! Last summer, I think, he did a book-signing event for Sahara in one of the Edinburgh bookshops. Unfortunately it was fully booked by the time I heard about it and I couldn't go. But I wrote a letter to him and he very kindly wrote a reply!!!which is treasured by me. From his letter I could tell what a lovely person he is. :)

I'm jealous Johhny. I "nearly" met Michael this year. I was in North Pakistan for a second time, around July this year. Apparently, Michael was present and filming at the "Shandur Pass Polo tournament" on the way to Gilgit. I had decided to forgoe the tournament to do some trekking in a certain area before the weather got worse in the mountains. So it was just fate i guess.

It was to Tirich Mir basecamp in a valley around Chitral (not so far from Shandur pass at all) and i had no idea he was going to even be in North West Pakistan (mostly because the range of mountains there are not Himalaya, but Hindu Kush and Karakorum.). So why he is travelling and filming the Hindu Kush and Karakorum for a "Himalaya" series is quite confusing. I've loved his comedy and travel work for years and love his 80 days series the most. So missing him is a punch in the stomach for me. I was truly gutted when i heard i'd missed him.

I only heard about this once i'd crossed into Afghanistan about 2 weeks later. I was in a small town there called Bamiyan (the site of the once collosal Buddhas, and caves). In a guesthouse i met another young Brit who had met Michael at Shandur Pass Polo and had chatted with him. Lucky sod. He was'nt even a fan of Michael either, and criticized him heavily throughout our conversation unfortunately. Oh well..hehe. Anyway, does anyone know when this series will be shown on Brit TV?. I've heard nothing more since a radio interview around April time.
