Judy, I never gave the trash cleaning boats any thought. I just figured all harbors have them. NO?

Lovely tribute to your state, Patty, you write so very well!

(And I suppose if movie people are so impressed, they'll come again.

A young friend of mine - maiden surname I forget - became Mrs. Simpson from Baltimore 3 years ago, but everybody at the wedding was too young to giggle at the connection. The original Wallis Warfield was quite upper-crust, i believe.

Sue, i know your local cinema, I just realised, I've seen films there myself- it's a fine local independent. (I think Mr.P. goes there too, look out for him!)

Hi Linda, you must be on line now at the same time as me! Yes, I really like my little cinema. They are always looking for ways of raising funds to keep going. Mr P is one of the patrons (that is, if we are talking about the same cinema)and the members had a letter from him not so long ago asking to help out (with money of course) as they want to do a lot of refurbishment.

Whilst we're talking cinemas in the London area, does any of our London dwellers know the Electric Cinema? And does it still exist?

My husband, who lived in London much longer than I did, took me to it
'centuries' ago (70s or very early 80s).

It still had gas lights and they served sandwiches. We watched 'Donkeyskin', I seem to remember. It was a rubbish film but I really enjoyed it because of the atmosphere etc. So now if I like a film everyone else thinks is rubbish, I am called Donkeyskin by both my husband AND a friend who was with us at the cinema all those years ago!!

Crikey I've just googled it and it is now a very posh cinema!!

Thank you for the nice compliment, Linda. Had my English teachers thought I had writing talent, maybe my life would've turned out differently. Maybe I'd have been a writer or gone into something other than medical sciences. lol.

I've never seen them anywhere else. It was kind of sad how much trash was in the water--I suppose people know the trash boats will come and gobble it up, so they just chuck it in.

For those of you who are wondering: the trash boats are small boats with a hydraulic conveyor belt on the front. The conveyor belt lowers into the water and drags up whatever is floating on or near the surface. I don't know if it gets ground up or just stored in a hold somewhere. The boats go hoovering around the canals and the harbor once or twice a day (is that right, Patty?).

I'm very easily amused. LOL!

The Electric Cinema in Portobello Road is still there, Anne! I don't think I have ever seen a film there though.

Yes it's still there indeed it's really nice too. We saw them filming a few commercials there a while back, they were all dressed up as old fashioned circus performers, it was fun to watch!
