Thanx girls! When we went in the 70s it was a bit of a rarity - really you went to it not for the films but the fact that it still had gas lighting!! (Or at least WE did!). According to one site I googled: "In the late 1960's it became the Electric Cinema Club, screening Avant Garde movies and had become a total flea pit, still retaining the emergency gas lighting."

And I thought it was soooo cute that there was a sort of hatch at the back where you could buy a sandwich (not that we did).

It sounds as if it has really gone up in the world!!

Hi, Sue, sorry i missed the chance for a chat! Yes, there are 2 really good independents in a short distance of each other - one in Hampstead & one in Finchley. I bet MP dishes out money generously to both.

(You can always guarantee a sensible non-chewing, non-slurping, non-chattering audience at both, can't you?)
