its bad news even here in the UK. Job centres are are swamped and they can't help people because those that are asking for help are professionals i.e. accountants, bankers etc.

the government has already bailed out two banks. Royal Bank of Scotland announced that they were slashing their bonus scheme from £1.7 billion to £175 million and this is a bank that is now in public ownership.

The US stock market didn't like the latest stimulus package either. It plunged right away for the 2nd time something has been signed.

What I meant was that when Ava is old enough to start working, it's her taxes that will be increased to pay for today's stimulus package, just as my daughter (and probably her children as well!) will be paying for the stimulus package that Obama just signed.

Yes, that's what's going to happen, Judy. And the sad part is that this package was shoved down our throats , unread by most of Congress. Just no time for doing THAT....!!!! Of course, something had to be done, but without closer examination? Time will tell.

Oh yes Judy that's what they're saying, yes. Not many people really thought about it much here, they just want the quick fix.

I've been doing some reading about the Great Depression of 1929. There are some startling similarities in the economic situation in the US. We can't let that happen again. I understand now why Obama feels it's so urgent that we act now, but I agree, Patty: it needs to be thought through a little bit before we dig ourselves in even deeper.
