Queer colloquial...up the ying yang! by Lounge Trekker on 6 March 2007 7:27pm

There are a few expressions used in this area that I find hilarious. The funniest one is used to describe an abundance, or multitude of a certain object or commodity. An example is this:

A person asks, "Do we have any pasta in the pantry?" The other goes to look and seeing several containers with a variety of shapes replies, "Oh, yeah! We have pasta up the ying-yang!"

I'm guessing this phrase originated with the bastardization of the Wushu expression of the harmony of Yin and Yan. Do you know of any odd phrases used in your area that make you laugh and might make us all laugh?

"Fixin' to"

ex: "The storm was blowing and the roof was fixin' to collapse."

"I'm fixin' to go to the store. Need anything?"

We here in Chicago are notorious for putting prepositions at the ends of our sentences. For example:
"Can I go with?"
"Where's my coat at?"

And also, the ever popular "pop" around here that some people like to call...."soda".

LOL! Pete, we say 'out the wazoo' in my family. Every time I go north to Pennsylvania it's 'pop'! And here in NC we put prepositions at the end of our sentences.

Some from my part of the planet, taken from my mom and others...

"Dang skippy!"

"What in the sweet shades of Hell are you doing?"

"tickled pi**y pink"

Calling younger people 'child' happens a lot too.
