6 days in Romania by intrepid on 4 July 2007 3:41pm
I'm going to spend 6 days in Romania, as you might have discerned, and I'd like to know what are 2 places that somebody who'll be in Romania for a short time absolutely has to visit.

Can anybody help? I'm going to start looking at some of the older pages, here, too.

I would assume Dracula's castle.

BTW, I saw on the news Draculas castle is up for sale. The asking price is 135 million.

I've mentioned it before, but it's worth repeating: Balkanology is very useful if you're looking for an overview of any country in the region and what it has to offer:

I'm in Buchurest at this very moment. Got here this afternoon, but haven't seen any of it. Thanks for the tips and the link. I only looked at the "Romania" article, but I ought to look at some other ones.
Tomorrow I'm going to Brasov. Dracula's castle is tempting but 135 milion is kind of steep, especially seeing as I'm only going to be here for a week.

A bit late to reply but assuming you havent already gone, Bran (Draculas) Castle is worth a visit just south of Brasov in the centre of Romania and an easy train ride from Bucharest. Though it isnt very big and unfortunately quite touristy now but as you are near Brasov you can spend the rest of the day there as its an exceptionally beautiful city with a cable car up the mountain nearby to give some tremendous views. You can also head down south to the coast, Constanta is a popoular destination with some lovely beaches along the Black Sea. Or east into the Danube Delta with some beautiful relaxing fishing and boat rides to look at all the wildlife. As its only 6 days I would avoid trying to see all the Carpathian Mountains to the north even though there are some beautiful monasteries in the north east. I always find Bucharest to be a bit too crowded and polluted and if you dont know the area well, a bit overwhelming. A half days train ride away is Cluj Napoca a large city but with a lovely atmosphere to it. Architecture, night life, botanical gardens it has the lot. Hope this helps!
