Still no election result. How long does it take Robert Mugabe to rig an election?

Re: Zimbabwe by Rox on 1 April 2008 6:40pm

Until he's sure he's got enough votes ?

Slim chance he may be finished. Way to go, but let's hope. He doesn't want - he says - his country to go the way of Kenya & its violence at election times, he still needs to hang onto the pretence he's a 'democrat'. Changing hour-by-hour, it seems.

We shall see, although I think the peacemakers are going to have to leave Kenya and head to Zimbabwe. Oh what a mess! Sadly, I am not surprised.

In the Zimbabwean situation I think it is a good idea to make the declaration of the result when all the counts are in. With the logistics of African localities this could take a while longer. Hopefully the fairness of the election will be maintained during this process.

I have a friend whose brother lived in Zimbabwe for 15 years, his son's were all born in the country.

they were hounded out a few years ago and had to leave everything behind.

Mad Mugabe will NEVER give up power.

I think ( and hope ) the next day or two will prove you wrong on that Blairhoyle.

Re: Zimbabwe by Ellerd on 2 April 2008 1:08pm

Sadly, I reckon Blairhoyle is right. Even if Tsvangirai wins, the army is (apparently) devoted to Mugabe. As for the delay, Mugabe is just trying to create the illusion of a legitimate election.

Re: Zimbabwe by Wild in Africa on 2 April 2008 3:30pm

Expect at any time a sudden announcement that Mugabe has won and be sworn in again as President, then a month or two of turmoil and then Kofi Annan being called in to mediate a power sharing agreement between ZANU PF and MDC. Yeeargh! Just get it over with now and stop repeating history.

I disagree with your statement WiA.

I'd hate to be president of anything at age 84 - except perhaps palinstravels Big Green Joke Book!
