John Cleese in Bristol 23 July by geordiegirl on 5 July 2008 10:11am

from yesterday's @independent':

John Cleese....willgive a no-holds-barred talk at the Redgrave Theatre, Bristol, on 23 July...in support of Bristol Zoo, which stands next door to Cleese's old school, Clifton College. As a boy, apparently, he was particularly fond of the lemurs.

(not from the newspaper, but MP says - maybe jokingly - these days JC does the voices for SatNav!)

That should be interesting.

I wish I could go...is that some kind of joke: a "no holds barred" talk at a zoo?

Lemurs are so cute!

No, no-holds-barred means the audience can ask (and he will answer) about ANYTHING - the columnist guesses this means about his nasty current divorce & other personal matters.

I'd enjoy it too, he's been very good on the more intelligent kind of chat show.

If I could ask him a question, I'd want to know what happened to all his animals when the ranch was sold. Did they get sold, too? Where are they now? The wildfire in Santa Barbara County is about 10 miles from his former CA home, and they've issued an air quality alert for the entire county. I hope the critters are okay. (I don't think either he or his ex are living there at present, or I'd be more worried about them.)

There's an incredible network of people taking in animals threatened by the fires. Everybody I know with a horse trailer is out moving animals to safer places. Co-ordination on this scale was impossible before the internet. Every animal list I'm on has info about where help is needed and where to go to get help.

Well, as I have friends in Bristol & don't see them very often, I'm going to try to get a ticket for this gig & have an overnight stay in Bristol.

If I do, I'll TRY to pass on the query about the animals.

Oh thanks, that's nice of you to offer! :-*
