*SCREAM!!!!* by Spursfan on 24 July 2008 9:18pm

I came into the study about an hour ago (been watching Celebrity Masterchef so couldn't tell you before) and there was a robin sat on my laptop !!!

Yes, a real, feathery, red-breasted, robin !

I don't like birds - well I don't mind looking at them but if they get too close and fluttery I'm outta there!

Luckily he flew straight out of the open window again - which I then shut !

And no, Johnny - he hadn't left me any 'presents' if you're wondering!

Yerbie is sound asleep. Figures.

Well, if he comes back, Anne, you can send him to me. I've got a dozen tiny ones (Lady Gouldian finches) that live in my bedroom. Half my bedroom is a big aviary and I just love waking up to their tweets and songs.

Well up until the beginning of this year we had an aviary outside. French Finches, Gouldian Finches, Cockatiels, etc etc (if the husband was here he could tell you but he's at work!). I would NEVER go into it! It wasn't so much a hobby, (i.e. he just let them get on with things rather than making sure A mated with B etc etc) more that he just enjoyed them.

If birds died he would replace them, but eventually he decided to let the aviary finish naturally (obviously he kept feeding them though!!), so in the end there were just 6 cockatiels left, and now the final cockatiel lives in the house, next to our blue-fronted amazon parrot.

But I still can't stand birds (though I have stroked Basil (parrot) on his head)!!

Oh I LOVE birds, I'd love a robin i my house!
When I worked in a bank years ago a budgie flew in and landed on my desk. I caught him and took him home in a shoebox and he was a lovely little pet for years.

I think that's what he is - could be a yellow-fronted? No I'm sure Basil is a blue-fronted.

And I do have a tame Scottish Dodo that I email sometimes - his name is Johnnythemonkey.

;p
