Oh dear:( I hear earlier that they think it might go to a category 5 which would be just disasterous.

Re: Hurricane Gustav by peripatetically on 31 August 2008 1:05pm

It's already disastrous at category 3 for THAT city! But I know what you mean.

My thoughts are with them. New Orleans may really get the knockout blow this time.

Re: Hurricane Gustav by elina on 1 September 2008 9:21am

It's just terrible. Some of the people only recently moved back to their homes after Katrina and now they have to leave again. Poor city.

Re: Hurricane Gustav by ev on 1 September 2008 11:49am

I think it won't be as bad as Katrina, but hope the residents of NO and the surrounding area will remain safe in any case.

Remember the main reason Katrina was so terrible for NO was the breaching of the wall.

Those poor people, having to go through all that again.

Re: Hurricane Gustav by kazzzz on 1 September 2008 3:01pm

Category 2 now

Re: Hurricane Gustav by geordiegirl on 1 September 2008 3:15pm

Yes, it's dreadful to contemplate. I hope Bush has put in place better systems for coping & helping than the last time.

What CAN we do to MAINTAIN the storms coming from the coast of Africa each summer, so we don't mess up the rainfall we need, but control the WINDS?

I know that global warming is A factor, and getting the temperature down in Atlantic waters will HELP. But that is not the only reason for nasty hurricane activity, it's been going on far longer than this.

(snaps fingers) COME ON, people, we need ideas here!
